I know a guy who works at sears point and says F-bodys are crap on the track cause they are to big to fit in a chicane next to another car.and they handle like crap compared to just about every sport comact and even most mustangs. I am looking at getting a 97 SS and want to set it up to take a few local scca track days and maybe get my license for the track. It was just an idea cause im kind of getting bored of the drag strip and want a change of pace for a little bit.I was wondering if anyone has a link to some info on the LT1 Z28 project car that popular hotrod did? I want to see how they liked it and how it compared to other cars seeming they got to get on the track with just about everything out there.
AutoX is education. Many have problems with control of a car that yields characteristics and hp that f-bodies produce. That’s why they need to get “seat time”. Bondurant uses C5’s to instruct… Not your everyday sport compact. First you need some Driver's Education. (http://www.f-bodyhideout.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=13473&page=0&view=collaps ed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1) Then learn how to Walk the Walk (http://www.f-bodyhideout.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=11685&page=0&view=collaps ed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1) And last but not least learn how to be SMOOTH (http://www.f-bodyhideout.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=8434&page=0&view=collapse d&sb=5&o=&fpart=1).
"Most experienced Time Trial drivers will agree that their automobile, as delivered from the factory in stock form, has significantly more performance potential than the Novice driver can ever reasonably expect to exploit. This is prior to any performance modifications being made to the car! Therefore, from the outset, it is generally recommended that the Novice driver thoroughly prepare and maintain the car and learn to drive it as delivered. There will be plenty of time to upgrade later in the season."
If there is one piece of advice I can give, SEAT TIME.

Oh no he is not "my guy" nor my friend just some moron I use to work with. As for "seat time" I completely understand where you are coming from cause I ride/race motorcycles and as we say "saddle time is the greatest teacher". As for driving my car stock for sometime, I dont think that is going to happen due to the fact that my car is going to be bracket raced and driven on the street so there are a number of mods I want to do to it. mainly suspension, gears M6 with 4.10's, ehaust, 6point roll cage, tires wheels and such. I am currently in the process of selling my 96 impala so I have some time to plan my rout of action and what not and I figure what better time than now to start doing some homework.
In the world of Racecars, get in as much seat time as possible with a qualified instructor. I strongly recommend enrolling in a professional driving school. An example of the seat time you will accumulate at driving school, Bondurant provides five or more hours of seat time per day. Taking a four day course, you will spend twenty hours behind the wheel at speed. That will give you at least a full year of experience!
You need to read the General Competitive Rules (GCRs) of the club or clubs you intend to compete in. A thorough reading of the GCRs will tell you what class your car will run in. Consult with knowledgeable Club members for answers to your questions. Points are assessed on car modifications to place you in a class. If you are a Green driver, your rookie season in production class will be extremely frustrating. Even more if you end up in Street Modified. Your car may be slightly faster than the other guy’s, but those dedicated drivers will be right behind you, or passing you! The drivers with the best feel for their cars, the track and themselves will be getting the best times. First, you need to fine-tune your driving skills enabling you to draw forth the maximum advantage out of any future planned modifications.
Now, you can ignore this advice. No skin off my nose. I see it all the time. If you are serious, use that money to hone your skills first. Pay to take some courses with an instructor. It will far exceed ANY bolt-on or modification. This is not drag racing where anyone can punch the accelerator. You want to do some homework, start by reading the articles in this section. Get out and consult with knowledgeable SCCA members in your area! Watch the races, see who is fast, and TALK.
