I found it, and its very interesting to see exactly what happened.

The error was found to be too much flap angle for an engine out. Another example of how every knows how underpowered the C-5 really is. Good thing nobody was badly hurt.

It's a big ass Cargo Plane. If I remember correctly it's the biggest one they use? I'll ask my dad when I get home, he know's all the differences between them.

Can we say...pilot error. I think the only flying that guy will be doing from now on is a desk.

Yes it is the largest one we have. The Russian's have one almost identical to it that is one-foot longer and wider than the C5. I guess they didn't like being outdone so they stole the plans and made a bigger one. Too bad it sucks. LOL!

We had a plane one step bigger than a C130 land at the Belize International Airport when I was down in Belize on AT and that thing was huge. They say when a C5 flies over you it becomes dark like night until it passes. It's like the M1070/1000 tractor/trailer of airplanes.

Yes they are. I've seen a few of those in person before.

I am pinging over the C5M. I bet it has the potential of being the C-17 killer. It is unreal with the C6-80C2 engines. GE has released you can activate reverse thrust in flight to give performance combat landings in very short distances. It has 30% less rollout on take off and 22% more power 12% faster climb rate.

yep, i was here when the C-5 crash happened. you could feel the impact all over base when it hit. luckily it didn't hit that hard. luckily no one died. it was pilot error. those pilots will never fly again.

I listened to where ATC told them to use full flaps.... they finally overrode ATC and reduced flap angle anyway. But it was too late. If the alert was that a reverse thruster was activated, use a crew member to do a visual. I cant start to tell you what happened while I was in the air in those things.... but we made them fly anyways... even if we had to land heavy on 3 mains instead of 4.

I remember driving past the crash site that night and just seeing them huge peices of Plane out in the field and all the bright lights they had out there made it look like it was a ufo landing pretty neat though I lived around c5s almost my entire life and never thought id see the day one would crash that close to home but it was great that no one got hurt, Their replacing the C5s with something But i cant remember what but all my friends on flightline at dover say they cant wait to get rid of them s.o.b.s I kinda miss em shaking the house to peices lol....ahhhh...memories.....

yeah, they are replacing the engines with the latest CFM56 Boeing 747 engine. It much quieter and more thrust. I'll miss the old C-5 ear drum blasting TF-39's. But the new engines will allow it to do things it never could before. Its definitely going to give the C-17 competition for long haul Strategic Airlift movements on the more remote airfields since it now takes less to take off and land. I am curious to how much more ramp weight it can handle.....
cargo wise.... Heard anything Patrick?
