This is a sad story I was at the track with a group of people and this guy rolled up in a 94 civic hatchback we started talkin and we were giving this guy a hard time for driving a matchbox car. He asked if I wanted to put up my Z aginst his matchbox car. I never turn down a challenge I noticed he was running Drag tires I did not think it was going to matter. We were staging at the light and over my own motor I could here this Civic hitting the rev limiter it sounded like a screaming banchee. I am thinking at this point I have got this guy I figured he was going to burn all the way through first. The light went green and we were off he was already two car lengths ahead of me. I hit second and again he was another 2 ahead at that point I knew I was beat but I tried to keep it close. He ran a 11.9 at a 100 and something I was blow away. We got back to everybody and I asked him was he on the juice he replied with a smile "NO all motor". He poped the hood he had a type R with a header, intake, exhaust, and camgears. I was blown a way. I asked him what he launched at and he said 8500 rpm. This guy can drive. So never under estimate a stock looking ricer he might take you for all you got. Because your ego might take a hit like mine did.

That stuff happens. When I used to be all motor I raced this CRX at the local 1/4. He had huge slicks and was doing a huge burnout. Then he ran 12.4@111 all motor when we went back to the staging lanes I asked him what he had done.
He said built 1.8 GSR motor. Then I looked and all it was was 4 banger N/A. They can be fast if you do it right.

It's always those stock looking ones that you have to look out for. Which is why I rarely race a stock looking one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heh_heh.gif

yeah an import can be done right but usually the guys that do it right have some american muscle in their blood.
This car here ran low 13's or better cause that is a bigger than stock turbo and a huge intercooler

MAybe they are putting some HP to teh wheels, but on Eclipse and a few others , theyre trannies will not hold up, even if they do have a clutch. Those stock transmissions are not designed to hold even half that power.

even built trannys blow...I have a friend that had a 450+hp GSX fully built<20k invested> he torched trannies every 2 months, and guess what took him out. A mildly built 95 GT stang w/o spray. Then the Stang raced a Z28 and got toasted while he was spraying a 200hp shot, then the Z ran a firehawk and was toasted lol. I love stuff like that...there is always something more insane. for some reason those really high HP imports arent very impressive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

now those are respectable imports...i was at us 131 the other day and there was like a 60's or 70's rice burner there that looked stock but he launched and had the front tires off the pavement for 30 feet and then laid down like a 9 or a 10....

and at the same time all the American V-8's with the same kind of time and investments are destroying those imports that are done right.

Racing a Honda is like the Special Olympics - even if you win, you're still retarded.

Average horsepower over the usable RPM band is more important in a race. Most DSMs that are tuned/modified for power have very impressive, yet peaky, power bands. A 350hp Camaro might very well beat a 450hp DSM (though I wouldn't hold my breath). That's just a peak figure, doesn't mean a thing without those power curves to back it up. If they keep it spooled up correctly they are gonna be extremely hard to keep up with.
It takes more than boltons to get one of these cars to move that fast reliably. I know someone putting down over 430hp and has never blown any of the drivetrain. Proper driving and tuning are key to a fast import. I have a lot of respect for those who do it right.

Brian fisher sold his car. So keep and eye out for a green/teal looking honda hatch. It runs 9.80's. Still looks stock. Full interior. Now he drives quality tires racecar on the street to make cash. It's a low 10 car. Imports have finally caught up. And they did it in no time at all.
Think about it. Domestic drag racing has been going on since the 50's. Over five decades of racing and the imorts have only had about 15 years. They are a force to be recond with. So don't sleep. A 12 second street car isn't impressive anymore. Bone stock cars from the factory run those times. And it's only going to get worse.

The only advantage id give imports is turbos, even though you can slap them on a V8, most dont, you can run 600hp at the track and tune back to 250 to drive it home. Id say anything under 12 is good for street racing, yes there are 9second Civics...but there are 8-7seconds Muscle cars to smack them in the face, yes they might come on a trailer but they are still a street car, as far as i know 6-8seconds are the top of the line import drag cars that wont ever see the street. 4-6cyl are bad, but they will never be completely on par with a V8, when a V6 or I4 takes out a Top Fuel Drag car, then they can finally say they are better then a V8

Yeah, maybe Camaro's, T/A's, Corvette's, and Cobra's. But hardly any imports. And as far as 12 second cars not being impressive? Count the number of 12 second passes at the track compared to 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 second passes, the last 4 (16-19 sec) being mainly imports.
